The First Seal - The White Horse

part of a Bible study by Paul George

Revelation 6:1-2

First, Revelation 5:6-7 – John saw “a Lamb standing, as if slain” take the seven sealed book from the right hand of the One seated on the throne.

Second, Revelation 6:1 – John saw the Lamb break one of the seals.

When the Lamb breaks the first seal, one of the four living creatures in a voice of thunder tells John to “come” so that he might behold the vision of the breaking of the first seal. After the command to “come” John says, “I looked and behold” a white horse rider with a bow. A crown was given to the rider and he went forth conquering and to conquer. This means that he is victorious, invincible, and nothing can stop him.

Who is the Lamb? In The Gospel According to John, John the Baptist said Jesus is “the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world” (John 1:29).

Where is the Lamb? He is standing before the throne (Revelation 5:1)

What is the Lamb doing? He is breaking seals (Revelation 6:1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 12; 8:1)

Who is this rider on the white horse? Is he our Lord Jesus Christ? Is he the man of lawlessness, the son of destruction, who will be revealed after the Restrainer is removed (2 Thessalonians 2:3), the prince who is to come and who “will make a firm covenant with many for one week ( seven years) and in the middle of the week put a stop to sacrifice and grain offering” (Daniel 9:26-27)?

The rider on the white horse cannot be our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lamb; He is in heaven breaking the seals. Note also, Revelation 6:16, the Lamb as still in heaven. Further evidence the rider is not our Lord Jesus Christ is the crown. The crown that this rider is given is a victor’s crown, not the crown of a sovereign, a diadem crown. In chapter 19, the white horse rider wears many crowns, and they are the diadem crowns, the crowns of sovereignty.

One of his first acts of this rider on the white horse represents will be a solution that will end the Arab-Israeli dispute by a peace treaty with Israel. This evidently begins Daniel’s 70th week, the unprecedented time of Jacob’s distress (Jeremiah. 30:7). His weapon a bow and since no arrows are mentioned it seems to indicate that he will bring about a peace through diplomatic tactics, cold war tactics through a one world order mentality that has been growing for years and continues to do so.

Today the stage is set for the rise of such a man with his world government and religion as an answer to international problems. Prominent world leaders and movements have posed the idea that what we need is a world order with a charismatic leader who can mold the world into harmony and peace and unite the nations under a one-world government.
